When you lose your natural teeth, all that is left are the bony ridges that are used to hold the teeth.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional dentures have to rest on these ridges.<\/p>\n<p>The shrinking of these ridges is known as resorption. Resorption is an inevitable process that begins when permanent teeth are lost. Without the stability of the tooth roots, resorption can continue until there is very little bone left, implants help slow this process.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this is one of the main reasons why people have difficulty wearing traditional dentures and look to implant-retained dentures as an option. An implant-supported denture can only be used when a person has enough bone left in the jaw to support the implants.<\/p>\n<p>Implant-supported dentures are most frequently made for the lower jaw because regular dentures tend to be less stable on the bottom arch.
