Oral Surgery Services

Oral surgery includes a broad list of procedures that can help address many patient’s dental and facial concerns. These are:

Maxillofacial Surgery

Maxillofacial surgery is a specialized field focused on diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the face, jaws, mouth, and neck.

This can include correcting jaw misalignments, treating facial trauma, addressing TMJ disorders, or performing reconstructive surgery. Maxillofacial surgery aims to restore function, appearance, and overall quality of life.

Tooth Extractions

Some tooth extractions may be considered complicated if there are certain anatomical variations to the tooth, such as curved or hooked roots or bulbous root ends. To successfully remove these teeth, some bone may be removed, or the tooth may be sectioned into smaller pieces.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

One of the most common oral surgery procedures is the removal of the third molars or wisdom teeth. This usually occurs because the wisdom teeth are often impacted, where part of the tooth or the entirety of it remains embedded in bone. Wisdom teeth impaction should be addressed to prevent severe pain, damage to adjacent teeth, infection, and difficulty in eating.

Removal of Impacted Teeth

Aside from the wisdom teeth, the canines and premolars are also often impacted. This may happen when there is not enough space in the mouth for these teeth to come out. Impacted teeth should be removed to prevent possible bite issues and to preserve a healthy smile.

Dental Implants

If you have missing teeth, dental implants are the permanent smile solution you are looking for. Dental implant posts are surgically embedded in the jawbone and positioned strategically where missing teeth are. Once they have fused in the bone, they can hold and support the future artificial teeth and effectively restore your smile.

Corrective Jaw Surgery (Orthognathic Surgery)

If you have complex bite problems, such as an overbite or facial asymmetry, your surgeon may recommend orthognathic surgery. This procedure realigns the jaws to correct the bite, enhances the smile and facial aesthetics, and improves the functions of the teeth for biting and chewing.

Treatment of Facial Trauma

Patients who have suffered facial injuries due to trauma may undergo oral surgery. The goal of facial and oral reconstruction is to rebuild the natural appearance and restore functions so you may talk, smile, and eat as normally.

Oral Pathology and Biopsy

Oral surgeons are also equipped with the knowledge and skill to perform analysis and biopsies on precancerous or cancerous lesions. Biopsies of a lesion can be obtained as a whole or as part of it. Then, it is carefully examined to determine the presence and extent of a disease.

The Oral Surgery Process

Not all surgical treatments are the same. But, knowing how the general procedures go can help you be well-prepared for what is to come. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Initial Consultation

We begin your journey with a comprehensive assessment. This includes a full check-up and taking your X-rays and scans to help our surgeons evaluate your condition and determine what you need for your treatment.

  • Pre-surgery Preparation

Before the surgery day, we will educate you of your treatment plan and provide you with pre-surgical instructions. This will include dietary restrictions and the medications you will take prior to the procedure, if necessary. Your post-surgery plan will also be discussed.

  • During Surgery

A surgical treatment starts with giving you sedative options, whether through local anaesthesia, oral sedation, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), or general anaesthesia. This usually depends on the complexity of your treatment. Sedation will help improve your surgical experience and allow our team to perform a safe and smooth operation.

  • Post-Surgery Care

Once done, we will provide you with a detailed instruction list on the do’s and don’ts after treatment. This includes guidelines on medications, diet, and activity. Following this list enhances your recovery and improves the success of the treatment.

  • Follow-Up and Long-Term Care

You may be required to return to the office after 7 days for a progress check. For more complex procedures, follow-up appointments will be scheduled accordingly. This helps our team monitor your recovery and address concerns in a timely manner.
