Dr. Adriana Sopruniuk
Dr. Adriana Sopruniuk was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and attended the University of Alberta, graduating with both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees. She is fluent in Polish and Ukrainian.
Dr. Sopruniuk is a member of the Calgary and District Dental Society, Alberta Dental Association and College and the Canadian Dental Association.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Sopruniuk is driving her two children to hockey, soccer and piano lessons. She also enjoys travelling, reading, golfing and running.
Dr. Meggan Schiffner
Dr. Schiffner’s passion in dentistry is treating families and developing a lasting relationship centred around her patients’ comprehensive dental health with a focus on prevention and education, starting at a patient’s young age of 1.
She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and is specifically experienced in children’s dentistry, crowns, bridges, fillings, sedation dentistry, and Invisalign®.
Dr. Schiffner became a member of the Calgary District and Dental society last year. She was elected as an executive member and was re-elected this year. She appreciates the opportunity to continue to learn about the latest trends in dentistry and connect with her peers.
She participates in outreach and speaking, as well as educating children in our local Calgary schools. She also works with mom’s groups, discussing healthy habits for expecting and new moms, along with their newborns.
Dr. Schiffner grew up in a small town in Northern California. She went to college in San Diego, where she completed her B.S. in Biology. For dental school, she attended the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, in San Francisco. She then moved to Dallas, Texas, where she practiced general dentistry before she moved to Calgary to be with her husband.
In her free time, Dr. Schiffner enjoys spending time with her husband and son, exploring what Calgary has to offer. She also enjoys travelling; her most recent trips have been to St. Lucia, Egypt, Australia and Costa Rica.
Dr. Jessica Thomas
Dr. Jessica Thomas wanted to be a dentist from a young age and continues to enjoy learning more about her chosen field. While Dr. Thomas practices general dentistry, she has a particular interest in pediatrics, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry. She enjoys developing relationships and getting to know her patients. Through communication and sharing personal experiences, she endeavours to make a visit to the dentist less stressful. Every person is different, and Jessica appreciates each of her patients’ individualities. She makes every effort to provide a personalized approach to each of her patients.
Dr. Thomas was born and raised in Calgary but attended university in the United States, where she earned her BSc in Exercise Science. Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, she attended dental school at the University of Alberta, graduating with her DDS degree in 2006. She also shared her knowledge with others, while teaching at Dalhousie University School of Dentistry in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Dr. Thomas has a number of interests and hobbies. She lives with her husband and two cats and enjoys time with them. She is also the oldest of six children and loves to spend time with her six nieces and eight nephews. Jessica plays the piano and is qualified to teach the Royal Conservatory piano curriculum. As an undergraduate and high school student, she taught piano lessons. Jessica also loves learning, music, reading, writing and other artistic pursuits like refinishing furniture.
Dr. Sonja Down
Dr. Sonja Down completed her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees in 2013 at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She practiced in Ottawa before moving to Calgary and joining the team at Sierra Dental. Dr. Down believes in building trusting relationships with her patients to create a comfortable environment and to help patients achieve and maintain their oral health for life. It is important to her that patients feel like their concerns have been heard and understood, and that they feel in control of their dental care. She provides a full scope of dental treatment, with special interest in sedation, restorative, pediatric and cosmetic dentistry. In her free time, Dr. Down’s interests include fitness, travelling and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Ben Thomas
Dr. Ben Thomas was born in Calgary and raised in Crossfield, Alberta. After high school, he spent two years abroad before moving to the United States to pursue further education. He completed his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University, where he majored in Neuroscience and minored in French. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, Master of Public Health degree, and Specialty Certificate in Periodontics from the University of North Carolina. His training also included certification in Intravenous Sedation and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Dr. Thomas is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and an active member of numerous dental organizations and societies, including the American Academy of Periodontology, the Canadian Association of Periodontology, and the International Academy of Periodontology. As a trained periodontist, he specializes in the placement of dental implants and the management of the periodontal disease. This includes:
- Limited or complete periodontal evaluation
- Surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy
- Periodontal regeneration
- Surgical implant placement
- Ridge and sinus augmentation
- Extractions and ridge preservations
- Gingival grafting
- Functional & Esthetic crown lengthening

Dr. Thomas is passionate about dental surgery and loves what he does. He is fluent in French and has provided dental services to underprivileged populations in Haiti, Mexico, Moldova, and Senegal. Despite his commitment to international humanitarian service, Dr. Thomas is happy to be home in Calgary and looks forward to putting down roots and building strong relations with his patients. When not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking for friends, and playing sports.
Dr. Poorvi Brahmania
Dr. Poorvi Brahmania was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. She moved to Saskatoon, where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Cell Biology and subsequent Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. She spent two years practising in her hometown prior to moving to Calgary.
Dr. Brahmania enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with a particular interest in pediatric, neuromuscular and cosmetic dentistry. While being an avid traveller, she also finds time to volunteer in underserved areas of the world, providing dental care. She is currently an active member of the Canadian Dental Association, Calgary Alberta Dental Association and College, and the Calgary & District Dental Society.
Along with travelling, Dr. Brahmania enjoys exercising, attending yoga classes, and trying the cuisine of different cultures.
Dr. Tom Shackleton
Dr. Shackleton graduated from Northwestern University Dental School and is a practicing General Dentist.
He is a member of The Alberta Dental Association & College and the Canadian Dental Association.
When not treating patients, Tom (as he prefers to be called) and his wife, Lori and busy with their four (mostly) grown children and their little puppy, Olive. He is an avid reader of most thing historical and is a bit of a sports fanatic, especially NCAA football (go Trojans and Wildcats!). He is equally happy going for a bike ride, doing a yoga class or enjoying a glass of wine with a friend.
Dr. Rod Herchak
Dr. Rod Herchak was born and raised in SW Calgary. He graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Dentistry in 1980. He has maintained a high-quality dental practice in SW Calgary for over 35 years. His interests include the Calgary Flames, the Toronto Blue Jays, fishing, history and cooking.
Dr. Mostafa Altalibi – Orthodontist
Dr. Altalibi received his D.M.D from the prestigious McGill University, graduating with the highest honour as the valedictorian of his class and having won numerous other awards including the American Association of Orthodontists Award.
Dr. Altalibi then dedicated the next year to working with disadvantaged and disabled kids at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. His growing interest in orthodontics led him to the University of Alberta to pursue his passion for orthodontics. There he completed a master’s degree and developed tools to help physicians and orthodontists treat obstructive sleep apnea in children.
Dr. Altalibi is currently involved in exciting research at the positive psychology institute at the University of Pennsylvania, to establish the means to boost his patient’s self-esteem throughout orthodontic treatment. He’s also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta Undergraduate Dental Clinic. He has published numerous research articles in respected scientific peer-reviewed journals on cleft lip and palate, surgical procedures, obstructive sleep apnea, and the new cone-beam tomography technology. Moreover, Dr. Altalibi is an examiner and fellow of the Royal College of Canada.
Outside of orthodontics, Dr. Altalibi enjoys healthy living, with an active lifestyle of travelling, camping, hiking, Cross Fit and yoga.
Dr. Ryan Keyes – Prosthodontist
Dr. Ryan Keyes specializes in Prosthetic Dentistry at Sierra Dental. As a Board Certified Prosthodontist, Dr. Keyes can provide advanced and complex restorative & rehabilitative treatment options involving Crowns, Bridges, Veneers, Dentures, and Dental Implants focused on function and aesthetics.
Dr. Keyes is from Calgary. He is adventurous, enjoys travel and has sought unique opportunities for education around the world. After completing a Bachelors Degree in Science, Dr. Keyes then completed his dental training at USyd. Following Dental school, Dr. Keyes completed an additional 3 years of training focused specifically on the Specialty of Prosthetic Dentistry by completing a residency in Prosthetic Dentistry at UMN.
Dr. Keyes has completed Specialty level examination and Certification in Prosthodontics and is a Fellow with the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Dr. Keyes is registered with the Alberta Dental Association and College, with practice focused on the Specialty of Prosthodontics.
Dr. Keyes enjoys teaching in the Dental field and has worked as an adjunct associate professor for the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in the Department of Restorative Sciences. Also, Dr. Keyes maintains research interests at the University of Minnesota involving Dental Implants. Currently, Dr. Keyes is involved with local and international Dental study clubs and lectures as a Specialist in the field of Prosthetic Dentistry.
Dr. Keyes enjoys the lifestyle Alberta has to offer and can often be found snowboarding, mountain biking, hiking, camping, or wakeboarding.
Dr. Amin Salmasi – Pediatric Dentist
Dr. Amin hails from Montreal and has studied and worked all across Canada. He has always been an avid student and has pursued multiple fields of research and science. He started his journey at McGill University studying the field of microbiology and immunology. Upon completion of degrees in microbiology and immunology, he obtained his dental degree at McGill, then entered the hospital dental residency program at the British Columbia Children’s Hospital (BCCH) in Vancouver.
At the BCCH he was responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of many special needs children coming in from all across British Columbia. To further his interest in the dental treatment of patients with special needs, he conducted his master’s thesis in public health and researched the subject of access to care for adults with developmental disabilities. He continued his education in the field of pediatric dentistry by pursuing a master’s graduate degree at the University of British Columbia with a concentration on craniofacial sciences.
During his academic career, Dr. Amin was a clinical instructor at UBC in the pediatric dentistry department. There he would teach dental students the best methods for interacting and treating children of all ages and abilities. Also concurrent with his studies, Dr. Amin practiced dentistry in many different communities ranging from small (North Battleford, Saskatchewan) to large (Vancouver).
Dr. Amin has a passion for access to dental care and has participated in several dental missions in countries such as Cambodia (Angkor Wat Children’s Hospital) and Guatemala (Casa Guatemala Orphanage). Dr. Amin also has a keen interest in languages and speaks English, French, Farsi, and Turkish (Azeri) and always loves to practice his languages with his little patients.
Dr. Wes Prepchuk
Dr. Wes Prepchuk was born in Edmonton but grew up mostly in the Calgary area. He made the trek over to Sydney, Australia in 2005, accompanied by his wife and two little boys. Since then, they’ve added two more children to their family, including one very spoilt little girl.
Dr. Prepchuk holds bachelor degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Lethbridge, Canada and in Dentistry from the University of Sydney, Australia.
Dr. Prepchuk believes in the importance of offering a complete range of services to his patients. Dr. Prepchuk has yet to discover an aspect of dentistry that he doesn’t enjoy. He loves the interaction with people, the intricately detailed work, and the active learning environment that dentistry provides.
After 14 years of practicing dentistry in Australia, Dr. Prepchuk and his now-grown family have moved back home to Calgary to settle, trading the sunny beaches and kangaroos of Australia for the snowy mountains and grizzly bears of Canada.
Dr. Tiffany Chen
Dr. Tiffany Chen is originally from Taiwan, she is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese. She lived in South Africa for 12 years where she received her dental qualification in 2006, from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. She then spent the next 12 years practicing dentistry back in her home country, Taiwan for another 12 years before moving here to Calgary.
Ever since she was small, Dr. Tiffany loves art and doing delicate handcrafts. She was the diligent girl who is obsessed with drawing inside the lines. Her love to work with her hands and interact with people steered her right into the career of dentistry. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with special interests in root canal treatments, extractions, and orthodontics.
Dr. Tiffany likes to think that being an amateur triathlete has helped her to achieve her goals in life. The sport taught her the positive motivation and perseverance required to attain her Canadian dental certification through the challenging equivalency process.
When she is not practicing dentistry or training for her next race, Tiffany loves to travel, or explore the world of Netflix in the comfort of her own home.
